Tasting Notes

This is a wonderful coffee that we buy from a small cooperative in Huila Colombia called Proagromil. Right now the cooperative has about 90 members. We buy a lot of this coffee and it is always in blackstrap and usually in 71. We pay a premium on the price of this coffee to fund sustainability projects with the cooperative, and are very proud to have funded several rounds of coffee sustainability projects in the community. These projects have focused on: the construction of new wastewater treatment systems for 23 members of the coop (2019), new solar drying infrastructure for 40 members(2021), and funding for recovery from landslides (2022).

Monserrate is bright, fruity and has a crisp acidity that makes it a crucial component for our espresso and house blends. It’s also a stellar coffee on its own. The 90ish producers that form the group sell their best coffee as microlots, many of which score above 87 points. The taste of this coffee comes from the terroir of Hulila, the and varieties - Colombia, Caturra, Tabi, Castillo that the producers grow. All of the producers process their own coffee and the difference between fermentation techniques and the microbiology from farm to farm leads to some stunning and beautiful differences between each of the coffees that is produced in the region. When you blend them together, it makes an incredible coffee.
