Nena Mendez and her husband Hermann own the Natamaya farm in Sonsonante, El Salvador. They named it after their daughters, Natalia and Mayita, who are the fifth generation of coffee growers. (Mayita worked for Irving Farm as a barista and part of our coffee team for many years.)
The family wanted to use their platform as producers to give back to the community, so they purchased a lot in the center of the village to build a school on. Since then, they have directed donations to construct the school and a soccer field for the children. Irving Farm donates one dollar from the sale of every bag to the school at El Portezuelo.
We have been buying coffee from the Mendez family since 2012.
